Eco-Gardening
Our eco-gardening service provides a more sustainable and cost effective way of maintaining your garden. This is achieved by using “waste” such as leaf litter and lawn clippings as mulch; which otherwise would have been taken to landfill. This is done in conjunction with our use of organic herbicides rather than traditional glyphosate weed killers. This style of gardening is suitable and beneficial for all types of gardens.
The Benefits.
Our design service most frequently engages in onsite planning of the installation of various plant species, creating garden spaces that are balanced and long lasting. Often our clients have a pre-existing idea and theme in mind, that with close consultation and refinement we bring to reality. This includes giving advice on plant species suitable for varying degrees of sun exposure dependent on their positioning in the clients garden. In other cases we happily provide suggestions for what type of garden style we feel will be most suitable for the desired space and clients interests.
Lawn clippings can also be used to mulch and fertilise your garden. This is due to the high nitrogen content of grass blades, decomposition of which provides a lasting nitrogen source for your soil. When combined with the leaf mulch, you create a carbon and nitrogen rich environment for worms and other organisms whilst providing nitrogen to feed your garden.
The use of eco-mulch will also help provide and retain moisture in the soil which is especially important in the spring and summer months; whilst providing a few extra degrees of soil temperature in the winter months. Eco-mulching controls the growth of weeds in multiple ways too; firstly, it blocks sun rays from reaching the soil beneath it, meaning that any weed seeds in the soil will not germinate. It will also act as a barrier to physically stop weed seeds from reaching the soil in the first place.
Lastly, it is a cost effective and environmentally conscious way of taking care of your garden. As most of the green waste would be used to mulch your garden, the waste removal fee will be greatly reduced if not eliminated entirely; as well as less labour used waste and taking it to landfill. Your garden will be thanking you!
